Summary

AI summary

Automatic updates, enhanced support diagnostics, menu cleanup, iOS email improvements, and refreshed packaging across Desktop, Mobile, and Highlights.

Full changelog

This release builds on 5.0.1 with self-updating, much better support diagnostics, a refreshed Help/View menu layout, mobile email and meeting improvements, and a cleaner cross-platform packaging story (a standalone Remote Host installer, a Flathub-ready Linux Flatpak, and a notarized macOS build).

Highlights

  • Automatic updates — Project Notes now checks GitHub for newer releases and can download and install them for you. On Windows the installer runs silently and the app relaunches itself. Manual checks are available from Help → Check for Updates…, and background checking is opt-out via Preferences → Updates.
  • Support diagnostics — A new Help → Send Logs to Support… command zips your log files (error.log, console.log, syncerrors.log) and attaches them to an email to support. A dedicated sync error log now captures synchronization failures that previously could fail silently.
  • Menu cleanup — The Logs viewer moved from the Plugins menu to the View menu, and a --help command-line dialog was added.
  • Mobile (iOS) — Emailing meeting notes now uses the native iOS mail composer, including action items and attendee lists in the body; tracker items can be linked back to the meeting they originated from.

Desktop

  • Added automatic update checking and one-click install/relaunch (UpdateManager), with an opt-out setting in Preferences.
  • Added Send Logs to Support… to bundle and email application logs.
  • Added a dedicated syncerrors.log so cloud-sync failures surface instead of failing silently.
  • Moved the Logs viewer into the View menu.
  • Added a --help startup dialog describing command-line options.
  • Improved header formatting and added references to the projectnotespro.com website.
  • Fixed report generation not attaching the generated PDF.
  • Fixed foreign-key lookups failing when a value contained an apostrophe.
  • Fixed meeting invitations for meetings where the client was excluded.

Mobile (iOS)

  • Replaced the plain mailto: link with the native iOS mail composer when emailing meeting notes; the message now includes the note's action items and attendee list.
  • Tracker items can be linked to their originating meeting via a Meeting selector.
  • Blocked (foreign-key) deletes now report a clear error and keep the record open instead of silently doing nothing.
  • Detail pages show project/note context in their titles.
  • Comment "updated by" is sourced from the project's team members.

Subscription & Hosting

  • Built-in subscription connectivity through Project Notes Pro hosting (Supabase), with subscription status and download messaging.
  • Removed manual remote-host selection in favor of the managed hosting sign-in.

Packaging & Platforms

  • The Remote Host tool is now a separate installer/application.
  • Added a Flatpak Linux build (Flathub-ready app-id projectnotespro) that builds on tags in CI.
  • Updated the macOS build for notarization.
  • Cleaned up the Windows installer so it no longer bundles unrelated developer packages, returning it to its expected size.

Project Infrastructure

  • Added GitHub issue forms (bug / enhancement / question) and a pull-request template.
  • Added a GitHub Pages workflow that publishes the documentation site.

Windows: download and run ProjectNotes-5.2.0-Windows-x64-Setup.exe below.
